Review of my bad experience with Dr. Abril. DEMAND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND EMPATHY FROM DR. ABRIL. About two months ago, I went to see Dr. Abril for a routine checkup (Pap smear), which I was satisfied with. Because of this, I decided to entrust her with a more personal consultation: finding a contraceptive method that would suit my body, since I am medically sensitive, and I made that clear from the beginning. She recommended the Mirena hormonal IUD, but when it came time to insert it, she used another brand, Miacare, without informing me beforehand. (I only found out she inserted it after consulting with a new gynecologist.) She told me that this method would help with my menstrual cramps and regulate my cycle. I went on the scheduled day for the IUD insertion, and everything seemed to be in order. She informed me that there might be initial bleeding and prescribed medication for inflammation, adding that if the symptoms persisted after 15 days, I should contact her. Thirteen days later, I wrote to her because I was experiencing heavy bleeding (like a continuous period) and more intense cramps than usual, which was seriously affecting my quality of life. She responded curtly with a "oh dear" and suggested an appointment for the next day. However, when I confirmed the time, she didn't reply. When I followed up the next day, she told me she couldn't see me anymore, which worried and upset me, as I had trusted her medical care. My partner had to schedule an appointment through Doctoralia for me to be seen. At that appointment, she finally checked the IUD placement (which was correct), but told me to give the device three months to adjust. She prescribed more pain medication, but I was already physically exhausted from so many anti-inflammatories and seeing no improvement. (I was already overdosing on medication.) I sought a second opinion. The new gynecologist examined the device and told me it looked like a copper IUD because of the color on the ultrasound and the threads, although she later confirmed it was Miacare, a generic hormonal version, not Mirena as I had been told. She prescribed a different treatment, and I felt better from the first day. She also told me that the bleeding I had could have caused anemia. The worst part of all was the lack of follow-up, empathy, and communication from Dr. Abril, even though I had shared with her from the beginning how sensitive my body was and how important it was for me to have support during this process. I was never informed that they would be inserting a different brand, nor did I receive the promised care. Doctoralia responded saying they would contact me, but that never happened. I'm sharing this because I believe it's important to demand what we're promised, to have clarity from the beginning, and not to stay silent when something affects us physically and emotionally. I can provide evidence.
